Our History

After being Soundly Saved in 2004, Pastor Chris was called into Pastoral Ministry, he and Nancy attended bible school.

During that time, they attended a series of seminars on church-planting, believing they were being called to plant a church in North Carolina. But God had different plans. 

Unable to sell their home in upstate NY for 3 years while attending the seminars, both Chris and Nancy began to see that they were called to plant a church where there was a real need. Not in the bible belt, but in upstate NY.
Together, Nancy and Chris joined hands and prayed to the Lord, telling Him that if He wanted the church to be planted in upstate NY, that they would do so. Well... in response, their house sold within 3 weeks after that prayer; leaving Chris and Nancy 10 days to purchase a home in the Utica, NY area. The church was planted in West Utica, NY, as "Turning Point Church of Utica." 
After 10 years at the original location, the church was bought out to make room for a new hospital in Downtown Utica. Pastor Chris received a call from another church in the area, and they gifted to us the church where we now are located - 932 Rutger Street, Utica. With the move came a name change - to Utica City Church, and here we are, ministering to both the local residents of East Utica and outward to the people of the Mohawk Valley!
Our Church is a young, reformed, growing church. We started with a small group of people in a home bible study who came together out of a shared desire to learn about God and grow closer to Him and to one another as Christians. We desire to live out the truth of God’s Word by modeling grace, and by loving and serving others as we pursue holiness and maturity as believers in Jesus Christ.
Our ministry has always reached out to people and parts of Utica and the Mohawk Valley that may have been overlooked in many ways by the church.  This is one reason we say that in Utica City Church, there are "No Perfect People Allowed."  We are the church, and we each are flawed, so we commit to being patient with one another as we grow together in grace.

Timeline:

2010: Home Bible Study began in June
2011: Planted the church, "Turning Point Church of Utica" on September 27th.
2019: Sold our old building to make way for the new downtown hospital in July.
2019: Moved into our new and current location at 932 Rutger Street, Utica in August.
